Carnarvon
After a late getaway from Coral Bay we stayed at a free Camp
along the highway. It’s pretty unusual for us to travel at dusk due to the
amount of wildlife that cruise on the highways – we narrowly missed a kangaroo
and a massive Wedge-tailed Eagle before we pulled in to our camp and made a
quick dinner. Our next door neighbours invited us over for a chat around their
fire and shared their Capel Vale red wine with us – now that’s a vineyard to be
added to our bucket list! Thanks Mike & Lynda! Twas a great night in a
fairly average rest stop.
The next morning we started off again and reached
Carnarvon fairly early. This caravan park I would have to say has been the best
yet. Caravan parking service is definitely the marriage-saver and free movies
for the kids in the rec room complete with an icy pole if the park owners see
good behaviour and reward with a coupon! Parent-saver too! This is also the
first town with deliciously fresh fruit & veggies in a LONG WHILE. We've
eaten salads ever since and the herbs and citrus were also awesome!!
Coffee Pot Train at One Mile Jetty |
We spent a few nights in Carnarvon catching up on washing,
shopping, schoolwork, business, & maintenance. We also did day trips out to
the Heritage Precinct to see the One Mile Jetty and were lucky enough to see a
fisherman land a small shark! Feisty thing it was! We also went out to Point
Quobba and saw lots of reef fish and large 2m sharks swimming in the reef under
the cliffs. Wish we could have snorkelled but it was too cold and wet L We spent some time
marvelling at the Quobba blowholes too! (But not too close –there was a sign
saying you gotta watch out for those killer waves).
Miss T's favourite lizard - a Thorny Devil |
We also visited the Carnarvon Space Museum/NASA station - there was a simulator which the kids all enjoyed but I'm afraid after that all the information was a little too technical and Mr J was a little ADD...if you know what I mean.
Love the thorny devil! How cool is that!!
ReplyDeleteHi Guys,
ReplyDeleteWe have been following your adventure and its fantastic to see that you are all having a great time. Its a shame that you had to spend some time in hospital but at least it got sorted out. I'm sure there will be some fond memories to look back on later.
You have certainly given us some ideas of where to travel on the West Coast.
It was probably the highlight of our time at El Questro to see the kids off playing together and ourselves enjoying some great company.
Cheers,
Tony, Lorna, Issy, Kiera and Chelsea.
